1. DON'T SHAVE YOUR LEGS SO OFTEN
If your skin is very dry and irritated, this means its damaged. In order to heal it, try shaving your legs less often as this will not give the skin enough time to repair itself. Shaving too often (especially with cheap razors) strips the skin of vital components it needs to stay strong and healthy. Just wear pants or jeans to cover hairy legs!
2. CHEAP RAZOR CAUSE RAZOR BURN ON LEGS
Don't use cheap razors! Brands like Gillette design razors especially for us to protect our delicate skin. They have more blades than cheap ones, which means you don't have to over shave your skin to get really smooth legs. Plus, they have oodles of moisturising product and a "lubrastrip" that surround the blades for a safe glide around your legs without nics and cuts, or stripping all the moisture from your skin.
3. DON'T KEEP YOUR RAZOR IN THE SHOWER
Keep your razor dry! Leaving it in the shower means it is prone to rust, germs, and bacteria —which leaves your skin vulnerable to infections. Store it somewhere else in your bathroom.
4. EXFOLIATE TO GET RID OF SHAVING BUMPS
Exfoliation is a must for shaving bumps and dry, scaly skin. Glycolic Acid, an Alpha-Hydroxy Acid derived from cane sugar has the ability to dissolve dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. This active skincare ingredient has a regenerative effect within the skin speeding up cell growth and collagen production. AHAs are also water-loving molecules capable of penetrating beyond the epidermis where they attract and retain water (think Hyaluronic Acid) to plump the skin, thus reducing fine lines and wrinkles.
Use a body serum like Ren AHA Smart Renewal Body Serum after showering. Or, for a cheaper alternative make a DIY sugar scrub;
💛 1 Cup Brown Sugar
💛 ½ Cup Organic Plant Oil (almond, avocado, coconut, or olive oil)
💛 ½ Tsp Vitamin E Oil
💛 5-10 Drops Essential Oil (optional)
*Use once a week
5. HEAL + REPAIR WITH SHEA BUTTER
When it comes to the best lotion for extremely dry skin on your legs, my advice is to go rich and thick.. ditch the lotion, which is water based and instead choose body butter! After showering the best thing you can do for dry, cracked, itchy legs is slather them with organic Shea Butter! Here's why;
💛 PROTECTS - Shea butter is high very high tocopherol (vitamin E), which contains powerful antioxidants that protect skin from free radical damage like UV rays and pollution
💛 STRENGTHENS - and firms the skin thanks to its collagen boosting abilities
💛 PREVENTS DEHYDRATION - Shea butter is classed as an occlusive, meaning it forms a barrier over the skin sealing in moisture and preventing dehydration
